Puppy farming is one of the most pernicious practices that faces pet lovers.
Puppy farms run purely for profit with little or no concern for the animals’ welfare. Dogs are kept in overcrowded, highly unsanitary conditions, with inadequate veterinary care, food, water or socialisation. The puppies do not receive treats, toys, exercise or basic grooming and can be kept in stacked wire-bottomed cages that injure their paws and legs.

Irrespective of one’s politics or religious preference, caring for the world’s animals is a unique human responsibility, according to Matthew Scully, an author, journalist and former speechwriter for George W Bush, in his 2002 book book, Dominion: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy.
US congress representative, Raúl Grijalva, has revisited this claim, writing on the blog of The Hill, a congressional newspaper.
“We are called to treat them with kindness, not because they have rights or power or some claim to equality, but in a sense because they don’t; because they all stand unequal and powerless before us,” he writes.
